Shield Health Support DVA Funded Occupational Therapy

Shield Health Support assists veterans’ children by providing DVA-funded Occupational Therapy. This essential service takes a comprehensive approach, examining both the home and school environments of veterans' children to ensure they achieve their full potential.

Occupational Therapy assesses all the daily activities of veterans' children and their classroom experiences, providing recommendations on how to reduce the impact of their medical conditions on their education.

Why does my child need Occupational Therapy?

Let’s say your child has ADHD or ASD. They may need strategies for managing these conditions at home and in the classroom. Your child might struggle to focus in class, at home, or during tests, which could be affecting their academic progress. We see this very often. Many medical conditions can impact a child’s education, and getting support is crucial. Your child may need adjustments at home or school to suit their specific needs, and our Occupational Therapists (OTs) can provide these recommendations to inform both schools and parents.

What recommendations might be needed?
Our OT Functional Capacity Reports cover everything from the type of pen or pencil your child uses in class to strategies that enhance focus and learning.

What is our process?

  1. Initial call to establish eligibility

  2. Develop a plan to secure DVA funding

  3. Submit the DVA claim

  4. Commence the OT Functional Capacity Assessment

  5. Provide school recommendations

  6. Ongoing Occupational Therapy support

Do I pay out of pocket?

No. If you’re an eligible veteran, we will assist you in securing DVA funding for our OT services. We have helped many veterans across Australia obtain funding for their children’s allied health needs, and we would be delighted to assist you.

What do you mean by DVA-funded OT?

This means that the Department of Veterans’ Affairs will cover the cost of your child’s OT services. Once we receive approval from DVA, they will be billed directly for your child’s sessions. We handle all the DVA complexities and simplify the process for you, ensuring your child receives the allied health care they need.
