What are the DVA Education Schemes?

The education schemes are a branch of DVA (Department of Veterans’ Affairs) that provide financial assistance and other support services to eligible children and dependents of former Australian Defence Force personnel who have died or been severely injured as a result of their service.

There are two schemes:

1. Veterans’ Children Education Scheme (VCES), established under the Veteran Entitlements Act 1986

2. Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act Education and Training Scheme (MRCAETS), established under the Military and Compensation Act 2004.

However, the two schemes are collectively called the Education Schemes.

What supports are available under the Education Schemes?

  1. Education Schemes allowance

  2. DVA Additional Tuition

  3. Fares allowance (a payment to compensate a child returning home after moving away to study)

  4. Rent assistance

  5. Special Assistance

Check out our Education Scheme guide for more specific detail on each of the supports. Click here to access.
